Summer Vacation for Your Teeth
It’s been a hectic couple of months with kids out of school and summer vacation in full swing. Planning a trip or relaxing is a perfect way to spend your days off. However, there are some important things that you should be doing for your teeth too.
What to do this summer if you want a healthy set of teeth
During the summer, brush your teeth twice a day and floss to keep your mouth healthy. It’s important to do so in the summer since you may not be as mindful or as fastidious during this time.
Be mindful of the sugar content in your diet this summer and increase your water intake and avoid too much soft drinks. If you choose to take your drinks with ice, don’t chew on them! Teeth may start chipping or developing cracks if they are in contact with cold ice cubes too much – so go for a nice smoothie instead!
Tea is good for your teeth. Tea contains compounds which can help reduce tooth decay and gum diseases. Just remember not to add sugar or else it would be similar to drinking soft drinks!
Drink water – especially tap water, which contains natural fluoride that will strengthen your teeth’s enamel. With water, you’ll wash away bacteria on the teeth! Water is better for your teeth and overall health than juices and sugary drinks.
Schedule your annual checkup for early, or even better before the start of school! It ensures you’ll have time and know what day to schedule your appointment.
Travel Tips
Pack your toothpaste and toothbrush in the glove compartment of your car so you always have them on hand. Alternatively, you can pack a toothbrush in your suitcase so you won’t forget to take it with you on long trips.
Don’t use travel cases for your toothbrush. These might seem like a good idea, but they really just trap in bacteria, which is yucky and stinky.
Pack your toothbrush and toothpaste in your hand luggage for quick access during long flights and layovers. If you lose your luggage, you’ll still have either of the two things you need to clean up before the flight is over.
Before your departure, make sure to visit the dentist. Getting a checkup can help you avoid dental emergencies on trips and you won’t have any unforeseen dental visits while on vacation or away from home.
