What you need to know about this service
What happens at your appointment
Every visit at Dovers is clear, comfortable, and straightforward. Here is exactly what to expect.
Consultation & Shade Matching
Your dentist assesses the damaged or missing tooth, takes X-rays if needed, and matches the shade of the crown or bridge to your surrounding teeth precisely.
Tooth Preparation
For a crown, the tooth is carefully reshaped to create space for the crown to sit on top. For a bridge, the anchor teeth on either side of the gap are prepared in the same way.
Impression & Temporary
An impression or digital scan is taken and sent to the lab. A temporary crown or bridge is fitted to protect your teeth and maintain aesthetics while the permanent restoration is fabricated.
Final Fitting & Cementing
The finished crown or bridge is checked for fit, bite accuracy, and colour match. Any minor adjustments are made before it is permanently cemented. The result is immediately functional.
Why Lagos patients choose us for this treatment
Precision Shade Matching
We take time to match crown and bridge colour to your surrounding teeth accurately — so the restoration looks completely natural, not noticeably different.
Durable, High-Quality Materials
We use dental-grade porcelain and ceramic materials that are strong, stain-resistant, and biocompatible — built to withstand normal chewing forces for many years.
Experience with Complex Restorations
From single crowns to multi-unit bridges, our clinicians have extensive experience delivering restorations that fit well, bite correctly, and look natural from day one.
Detailed Pre-Treatment Assessment
We assess the health of the teeth receiving the crown or supporting a bridge before proceeding — ensuring the foundation is sound and the restoration will last.
Frequently asked questions
A well-made, well-maintained dental crown typically lasts 10 to 15 years. With excellent oral hygiene and regular check-ups, they can last significantly longer. Avoid using crowned teeth to bite hard objects like ice or bottle caps.
The tooth preparation and fitting are done under local anaesthesia — you should feel no pain during the procedure. Mild sensitivity for a few days after is normal and resolves quickly.
A crown covers the entire tooth and is used to restore structural integrity. A veneer covers only the front surface and is primarily cosmetic. Crowns are recommended when a tooth is significantly damaged or weakened.
A bridge works well when the teeth on either side of the gap are healthy and strong enough to serve as anchor teeth. If they are not, or if you prefer a solution that does not involve those teeth, dental implants may be a better option.
Brush twice daily and floss carefully around the margins of the crown and under the bridge. Regular professional cleaning is essential to prevent decay at the gum line where the crown meets the tooth.
